These are the games that directly affected me and my life one way or another!
Stuff that actually touched me and to this day affects how I make my own art :v
I played Disco Elysium at one of hardest points in my life I think. On my playthrough almost everything went wrong and got a lot of people killed because i kinda wasn't expecting the game to end so soon, and the game kinda loves to push your faults in your face like YOU DID THIS BTW :>. And even after failing so hard and being a wreck of a person(i related to harry a lot :p) seeing harry somehow get his shit together kinda gave me the glimmer of a hope I needed that lead me to start my whole opening comissions thing.
Also the whole game, its mechanics, talking to npcs(this is one of the best parts of games for me btw), talking to voices inside harries head, the politics, the oil paintings, the music, the story of the studio that made the game etc etc... It truly was a masterpiece that completely how I made my art. :D
Completely blew my mind with it's aesthetics and the way it tells the story. I was so touched that I went through the whole bayer dither rabbithole also and since then it has been a staple in my art. Also made me learn how to do shaders in general as well! :D
Led to the creation of Isle' o' Little Men which is one of my favorite games I have developed :3
I think everyone knows how groundbreaking undertale was when it first came out. The loveable characters, 4th wall breaking stuff, different routes and interactions etc. I went craaaazy over it when I was a kid like I was fully in that fandom :D watching music videos, consuming fanart, theories, fangames etc.
It was one of the biggest reasons that started my love for rpgs that lingers to this day! My whole RPG Maker Games craze started because of it! :D (even tho its not an rpg maker game :p)
This and LSD Dream Emulator was how I got into making surreal stuff in general. Even tho I love the sense of isolation it has when me and my friends were making Sauntered it originally started with the idea of making yume nikki with more gameplay and talking to npcs for the lsd game jam :D Sauntered was one of the biggest reasons that led to me meeting my wife also, so its very special for me :DD
I think im kinda like too into the "Loser Old Men" genre of videogames, i relate to them so much for some reason even tho im in my early 20s. Other than the insane story, humor and art I love the unforgiveness of it and how it can get both funny and serious at the same time.
I also LOVE Lisa the Pointless, I love its themes and how it tackles nihilism!! It's really good you should play it!!
And! And! Lisa the Heartless! It's really good too, it's kinda like hollow knight meets lisa! I can talk about it so much but go experience it for yourself! It has like almost no content about it on youtube despite the insane quality of the project :o Like real niche stuff :v
Fear and hunger as a whole is an insane media for me, it made me live through the whole game fandom stuff i talked about at the undertale part again :D I kinda love unforgiving hard rpgs, they are unfair in a fair way you know? Like i had no problems spending 2-3 in game hours with my legs cut off crawling around to find a sylvian book to regain my them! Painful in a good way!!
Also I like termina more than the original one because of the characters (even tho the original establishes the artistic vision of the whole fear and hunger stuff better i think). We had like a marina and samarie phase with my wife. :D (im marina!) We are going to do a couple cosplay of them someday :DD
I was following Joel G even before the ena series on youtube :D I saw the start and rise and ena and I'm so happy about it! And dream bbq was insaneee they made the yume nikki with talking to npcs stuff I was talking about, but with 3d stuff??? like??? :o
We sat dawn at 3am with my friends, pulled an all nighter and binged the whole game :D I was going HOOOOOOLYSHITTT like every 5 minutes. The whole game is artistically insane and it not having that much game mechanics gave me hope about my games bc i suck at game mechanics and excel at game atmosphere i think :D
This and the spiritual successor Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was sooo fun :D I literally loveeee hideki naganumas music soooo much :DD It has a style i'm trying to replicate because not many games nowadays have that, I also love the dj thing it has! Like all songs have unique transitions to eachother thats like so cool! I never saw that in any other game before :o
Loser main character, mental illness, visual novel - like aight you already lured me in :pp The dialogue is very well written I think like it potrays the whole mentally ill character so well, as a neurodivergent person I understand the "not walking right" thing extremely well :ppp (and like other stuff :pp)
Also when I discovered the game it had like almost no reviews or content about it online so I went in blind and I was really amazed :D Milk 2 is bad imo tho, makes the illness stuff a bit too quirky i think :v (tho its only my opinion im sure you have your reasons too if you like it :3)
